GAGAKU

Japanese Imperial Court Music Concert

On Sunday, March 8, the Glenn Korff School of Music will present a concert of Gagaku (雅楽) music at Kimball Recital Hall in Lincoln. Gagaku, Japanese Imperial Court Music

dating back to the 10th century, is still performed today. This performance will feature some of the top Gagaku musicians from the Music Department of the Imperial Household Agency of Japan (宮内庁式部職楽部) and will be the very first of its kind in the history of Nebraska. The concert will conclude with the World Premiere of Susumu Watanabe’s “Concertante for Sho and Jazz Orchestra,” featuring internationally renowned sho soloist Naoyuki Manabe and 16-piece jazz orchestra. This promises to be a truly once in a lifetime cultural event.
